Tasting notes

These delightful little orbs are super sweet to eat and great for snacking, salads or cooking – the perfect variety for bruschetta and a truly sweet treat.

Each season we search high and low for the next best cherry vine tomato, and to date, we have never found a variety that can beat the piccolo. The Isle of Wight was one of the first places this variety could be found after its introduction from a small French seed house. Undoubtedly fantastic to eat but can be very tricky to grow. Piccolo required a lot of attention from the growing team & if left untended the variety would produce so many small fruits, the top of the plant would stop growing altogether! Brix levels are how we measure naturally occurring sugars in our tomatoes & piccolo sits firmly at the top of the scale when it comes to sweetness. However brix does not tell the whole story and piccolo tomatoes do not only have high sugar levels, but this is balanced with a high acidity. We simply couldn’t be without our favourite cherry vine hence why we grow it 12 months of the year. We also grow this variety organically.

Piccolo tomatoes are an absolute delight when eaten raw, so it is often our first choice for salads or a quick snack. There are several other uses of course. One very easy & quick option is to lightly roast and add to couscous or pulses. Or add to a skewer with vegetables, meats or halloumi for a quick summer winner for the BBQ.
